The 2013 Plastic Surgery Congress invites you to the cosmopolitan city of Melbourne. Known for its style and sophistication, the city exudes a distinct bohemian charm with its maze of hidden laneways, opulent bars, exclusive restaurants, charming gardens and off-the-beaten-track boutiques. It’s also a cultural hub of museums, galleries and music venues.
Golf
With 4 of the 10 top golf courses in Australia located within the south-east ‘sandbelt’ corridor of Melbourne, the city boasts a fabulous group of golf courses that epitomise the golden age of golf architecture. These highly ranked layouts are built on land in the southeast suburbs ideal for golf and conveniently located within a short distance of each other. Championship courses masterminded by acclaimed architects include Royal Melbourne (East and West), Kingston Heath, Metropolitan, Victoria, Commonwealth, Huntingdale, Yarra Yarra, Peninsula (North and South), Woodlands and Spring Valley.
Food & Wine
There are more restaurants in Melbourne than days of the year. The city is a melting pot of cultures, a fact reflected in its myriad of restaurants, cafes, bistros and bars. While the dizzying array of world-class chefs, haute cuisine and ethnic eateries is inspiring, it can be hard to make a choice.
Art, Theatre & Culture
Scratch the surface in Melbourne and you'll discover a city buzzing with dynamic and cutting-edge arts and cultural companies. Head to the Southbank precinct and experience a hotbed of Melbourne art and culture including the Victorian Arts Centre, the Malthouse Theatre, the Recital Centre and the National Gallery of Victoria's international collection. Federation Square fuses art with architecture – see inspiring visual exhibits at ACMI, wander through the permanent collection at the Ian Potter Gallery, or see a recital at the BMW Edge Theatre. Discover the innovation and skill of local artists and designers at hole-in-the-wall galleries, designer boutiques and theatres scattered throughout the city's laneways.
Nature & Wildlife
Slow down in Melbourne's lavish parks, gardens and waterways. Surround yourself with age-old trees, manicured lawns and abundant wildlife in a pocket of calm and tranquillity in the middle of this bustling city. Wander the tree-lined pathways through the Treasury and Fitzroy gardens or enjoy the sculptured terraces of Birrarung Marr, Melbourne's newest garden situated on the shoulder of the Yarra River. For a truly Alice in Wonderland escape, head to the Royal Botanic Gardens – an ornamental labyrinth of lawns, weaving paths and venerable old trees.
Entertainment
Melbourne boasts Australia’s largest concentration of live music venues, where local and international bands cover everything from grunge rock and techno to jazz, blues and the avante-garde. As well, you can catch a cabaret show featuring one of Melbourne’s comedy stalwarts or visit the Crown Entertainment Complex, home to Australia’s largest casino, cinemas and designer stores.
